Autism Acceptance Month

April is Autism Acceptance month. On Wednesday the 10th of April Hoods Up, Volume Down is a day organised by Autism NZ to support neurodiverse people

The idea is for all people in different communities in New Zealand to wear hoodies and raise funds and awareness for autism. Lily McCabe wanted her school to participate in this celebration of acceptance. Lily worked hard over two weeks to organise a day that Trinity Catholic College could show their support towards autism. Lily created a fundraising stall. This stall operated on Wednesday selling wristbands, pins and stickers. Lily also worked alongside the wonderful librarian Colette to have quiet break times in the library to work in conjunction with Hoods Up, Volume Down day. Lily put out a request for all staff to wear hoodies to show their support, and it was awesome to see so many different coloured and patterned hoodies worn.

This day was a great success! With Lily’s hard work she is able to assist Autism New Zealand with the funds she has raised and the school has shown wonderful support and acceptance to the neurodiverse community.

This has been a very enriching experience to work alongside with Lily, thank you Lily.
