The Year 10 Economics students have completed the “Going Flatting” topic and explored the ins and outs of living independently and the economic decisions that come with it.

Here are some key highlights from the student learning survey results:

  • 95% of students felt that they had gained a better understanding of budgeting and financial management through the topic.

  • 90% of students felt that they were more confident with filling out tenancy documentation and tenancy law.

  • 75% of students felt they were more confident in resolving conflict in a flat situation.

  • 100% of students enjoyed the trip to town with their flatmates to investigate prices of items for their flats.

  • 100% of students liked choosing their own flatting group and property to rent.

  • 87% of students expressed that they could see the relevance of the topic to their future lives as several students are planning to go flatting.

The most popular dishes that students would like to cook in their flats include: lasagna, noodle stir fry, pasta bake, eggs, chicken dish, pizza, cottage pie, macaroni cheese and tacos.

In Terms Two and Three, the flatting groups will have the opportunity to cook their favourite dishes at school. 100% of students are keen to do this! Watch this space … In the meantime, I have suggested to the students that they might like to practice their dishes at home and assist with the family meals.
