The University of Otago Information Science Department hosted students from the Gifted & Talented Programme on the last day of Term Three

Students were transported into another world when they stepped into the development workshop of the University of Otago Information Science Department.  Students tested a variety of virtual and augmented reality software, seeing the potential of what the future of technology may look like.

A highlight was to see the progression of the  mixed voxel reality,  a virtual world that students could step into and be part of a three-dimensional world, moving away from our conventional computer screens that are two dimensional. Holger Regenbrecht, the Professor and Head of Department estimates that voxel viewing world will be the viewing future of our youngest members as they leave school.

A huge thank you to Holger and the team for donating their time to showcase their resources and expertise, always with outstanding hospitality. You have opened our students' eyes to the ever-growing opportunities that exist beyond the classroom.
