Hockey Team Hosts Aussies

Kavanagh College hockey hosted a boys hockey team from New South Wales who are doing a tour of the South Island.

The team is made up of boys aged between 14 and 17 who were invited to the team. They had their first practice last week and we were their fourth game of the tour. They were very skilled and were starting to combine very well with some lovely passes that swept end to end.

The first half was close with Kav conceding only one goal. The 20 plus degree temperature took effect on the team and we certainly started to lose energy as the game progressed, whilst the NSW lads revelled in their normal playing comfort levels. Down three nil going into the last couple of minutes the Kav team rallied well and had a couple of opportunities with penalty corners and field shots but couldn't convert.

A pot luck dinner showed our new Australian friends some good old southern hospitality before being billeted by the team (and Mrs McKay!!). Thanks to all the parents who billeted students, it was much appreciated .
