What is the Easter Season?

The Easter season is fifty days from the Sunday of the Resurrection of Jesus to Pentecost Sunday. The first eight days of the Easter season is called the Octave of Easter and is celebrated. It is a way of prolonging the joy of the initial day. During the Easter season the Paschal Candle, a symbol of the presence of the Risen Christ among the people of God, stays in the church near the Altar until Pentecost Sunday.
